WHY

Why Train your Dog?

Help your Pup become Self-Confident

A confident dog takes everyday challenges in stride. They enjoy new experiences and there is a lower risk of your dog developing behavioural issues.

Increase Positive Behaviour

By regularly training, your dog will learn what behaviours are rewarded and will start offering those behaviour more often.

Learn to work as a Team

Building a strong relationship with your dog allows you to trust each other, allowing you and your dog to be completely relaxed around each other.

Enjoy your Dog

Having fun with your dog and spending quality time together strengthens your bond and allows for better training results.

Understand Canine Behaviour & Communication

Understanding why dogs behave in certain ways and knowing how they learn new things, allows you to train more effectively.

Meet Like-Minded People

Not everyone wants to hear about your puppy all day long. We do! Find out how other people deal with certain behaviours and talk dog!

Good Dog – Level 1

Learn from Home

Learn From Home

Online Learning Course

GOOD DOG – LEVEL 1 is an online course to teach your dog all the skills necessary to thrive. Whilst dogs have been bred to live with us for many, many years we can’t discount the fact they were once wild scavengers and still enjoy hobbies like bin raiding, people drag racing and legging it after squirrels!

Dogs don’t come knowing the key skills needed to be a good boy or girl and just like young children, they need to be taught to show them the way.

Tips and Tricks

How to …

The higher the value of reward for your dog, the higher the chance of success. Setting our dogs up for success allows the learning process to go faster. Whilst training your dog around distractions always use high-value rewards, e.g. chicken, ham, spam, hot dog or cocktail sausages or mild cheese. For training sessions with lower distractions, mix some high-value treats with your puppy’s kibble (dry food) in advance, the scent of the high-value rewards marinates with the dry food, upping the value of the dry food!

TESTIMONIALS

What Our Students Say

Alfie is my 4th dog, but I decided to do the basics in a class with him, just to brush up. I’m so glad I did because dog training (or Victoria’s) has come so much further than the training I’d done 15 years ago. Kind (but firm and fair) with positive reinforcement. It really suited my lad and we’ve done 6 courses in total with People and Dogs. My favourite was Fun and Functional with tidy up and bang bang you’re dead. He loves it when his clicker comes out and it is time to train.

Alfie

Last year we took our dog, Larry, to People and Dogs for his puppy classes. We ended up going on three of their courses and both us and Larry absolutely loved them! We still miss going to them now. We received so much support and amazing tips which we would have never got, or even thought of, if we didn’t attend Victoria’s classes. Larry has a tendency to be a shy dog but going to the classes for several months as a puppy helped his confidence enormously. We can’t thank People and Dogs enough and would recommend them to anyone looking for classes for their dog of any age.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

If I can't make it to one of my classes, can I switch to a different day?

You are booking a complete course of learning, please check the dates prior to booking as we are unable to transfer between classes.

I have done a puppy course with a different trainer, can I start with a higher level course?

Yes, but only if your previous dog trainer used force-free methods and you know the basics, you can start at the Intermediate course. If you are unsure, drop us an email and we will get in touch.

My puppy will not have had all vaccinations before the first practical class, is this a problem?

We recommend the pups come after their second vaccination and or over 10 weeks old. If you are concerned, please bring a blanket from home to train on.

Training Ethics

Our methods are KIND, FUN and FEAR FREE!

We use positive reinforcement with a strong emphasis on animal welfare combined with in-depth knowledge of dog behaviour and training.

We do not condone or use physical corrections or aversive equipment such as choke chains, prong collars, rattle cans or slip leads. Our classes and 1-1 lessons are fun, informal and enjoyable for you and your dog. We are proud members of several professional organisations that represent Force and Fear Free Trainers and we aim to teach you to understand your dog’s behaviour so that you can build a trusting cooperative relationship.

Our motto is “Train me – don’t blame me!”
