Helen Oram

Helen has worked with People and Dogs for many years and after a break to concentrate on her own career, re-joined us in 2021.

Helen now runs our Renishaw venue. She has numerous qualifications, has attended many seminars and conferences and is currently studying with the School of Canine Science.

Helen has been around dogs since childhood, currently lives in a multi dog household (as well as a multi-horse, donkey, chicken and sheep household) and teaches Life Skills Puppy, Life Skills Junior and Life Skills Intermediate as well as 1-1 training, including training dogs around livestock.

Her passion is helping owners to better understand their dogs needs, enabling the dog to lead a happy and enriched life.

Jenny Cartledge

Jenny Cartledge is business partner to Victoria Cooper and manages People and Dogs.

She teaches Life Skills Puppy, Life Skills Junior and Life Skills Intermediate classes. She also offers Puppy Home School, 1-1 training lessons and ‘We Train For You’ services.

Jenny received her Foundations of Canine Behaviour Management Diploma with distinction and has a current canine first-aid certificate. She has completed The Puppy Lab from SOCS and has attended various seminars for dog trainers. Jenny is currently studying for an Advanced Diploma Applied Animal Behaviour (Canine) L5, The School of Canine Science Behaviour Bible and Scent for Six.

Jenny comes from an equine background and has taught and worked at a riding school. Her own dog Floyd was particularly challenging and inspired her to learn more about canine behaviour – why dogs react the way they do, how we can help them navigate our human world, and how to help both dogs and owners understand each other in order to live happy and fulfilled lives together.

Kat Brookman

Kat Brookman is one of our experienced Instructors and teaches puppies and older dogs from foundation puppy level to advanced graduate levels. She also offers 1-1 training lessons and Walk & Train services.

Kat also offers Scentwork UK courses and tracking foundation courses. Scentwork has become Kats niche and passion and she is now a Scentwork UK Recognised Trainer for Levels 1-4 as well as a Trials judge and Trials Manager.

Kat has completed The Institute of Modern Dog Trainers courses, University of Duke Dog Cognition and Emotion course and has attended various seminars for dog trainers. In September 2020 she completed and passed with distinction the Canine Behaviour Training Diploma course. She is now studying towards her Level 5 ISCP Diploma in Canine Behaviour.

Training Ethics

Our methods are KIND, FUN and FEAR FREE!

We use positive reinforcement with a strong emphasis on animal welfare combined with in-depth knowledge of dog behaviour and training.

We do not condone or use physical corrections or aversive equipment such as choke chains, prong collars, rattle cans or slip leads. Our classes and 1-1 lessons are fun, informal and enjoyable for you and your dog. We are proud members of several professional organisations that represent Force and Fear Free Trainers and we aim to teach you to understand your dog’s behaviour so that you can build a trusting cooperative relationship.

Our motto is “Train me – don’t blame me!”
